Ed Sheeran starring in a TV show is a real-life dream come true
Sweet boy next door, a swoon-worthy crooner, AND a TV star?! You won’t believe who is coming to prime time television now…it’s Ed Sheeran. A charming collab between Sheeran and writer/producer/ creator Kurt Sutter (known more recently for South Paw and Sons of Anarchy) originated in a Twitter exchange when Sheeran expressed his love for Sons of Anarchy. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Sheeran will steal the show on Sutter’s new FX series, The Bastard Executioner, which will premiere this October. Here’s what you need to know:
The Bastard Executioner is a period drama (intriguing, right?).
The series’ plot is said to be a gory medieval tale which follows the drama and politics of an age old kingdom complete with swords, blood and guts.It centers around a warrior who can’t quite tame his blood lust and retires (?) into the role of “bastard executioner.” There should be lots of conspiracy, violence, and of course, our main man, Sheeran. And yes, British accents too! The series is currently filming in the UK.
Sheeran will not be his normal self on the show.
Although the Sheeran we know and love is shy and sensitive, we will see a new side of him on the show. In his recurring role, he will play the dangerous apprentice to a conniving (and powerful) church elder named Sir Cormac. From all the talk of blood shed, it seems clear that this will not be a PG Sheeran.
There will be music.
Even though Sheeran will be stepping into a new character for this new creative endeavor, we still get to hear that soothing sound. Sutter and Sheeran recorded a cover of Foy Vance’s “Make it Rain” for the opening episode. We can’t wait to take a listen.
Sheeran isn’t the only stunner. The show will also feature a top-billed cast.
Sheeran isn’t the only show-stopper to join this highly anticipated drama. The show will star Stephen Moyer from True Blood and Katy Sagal from Son’s of Anarchy. Even Kurt Sutter will make a cameo. The cast will surely sparkle and Sheeran will add his own special touch. Amidst this new break for him, Ed ‘s tried his hand at the small screen with a few other projects and has also continued to achieve within the musical realm. He’s been insanely busy this year and will continue to pack a punch with more upcoming projects.
It’s been a huge year for Sheeran:
Not only is Sheeran a six time Grammy nominated artist but he’s set to release a special, Ed Sheeran: Live at Wembley Stadium in thelate summertime. He also appeared on NBC’s Undateable earlier this spring. His accomplishments keep adding up — his second album, x, is number one all over the world. At only 24, he is already one of Spotify’s most streamed artists. Now we’re just ready for Sheeran’s debut on Bastard Executioner in October. We know he’ll slay it.
