Ed Sheeran serenaded a sick fan in the hospital and our hearts are melting
Fact: Ed Sheeran’s voice is magic. Whenever he sings, all kinds of emotions surface and it’s a struggle for us to maintain composure and not slump over into a weeping pile of feels. Come to think of it, that’s exactly how we reacted to seeing Sheeran serenade a sick fan in the hospital.
As reported by ABC7, the “Touch and Go” singer once again showed the world that he is literally sweeter than all of us combined by singing to a 9-year-old fan named Melody who has spent nearly her entire life hospitalized due to a debilitating Rett syndrome diagnosis. According to her mother Karina Driscoll, Melody has undergone more than 40 surgeries. The illness prevents her from walking and talking, and also causes her an immense amount of pain.
But clearly, that was the furthest thing from this precious little girl’s mind when Sheeran visited her in England’s Epsom Hospital, where he performed two of her favorite songs, “Thinking Out Loud” and “Photographs.”
Melody’s mom, who tirelessly campaigned to arrange the dream-come-true meeting for her daughter, wrote a letter expressing gratitude for Sheeran’s heartfelt gesture:
"I want to personally take this time to thank you for making my princess's dream come true," she wrote. "You are the one that has made all of that happen. She fell in love with you when 'Thinking Out Loud' came on TV for the very first time. Her reaction said it all. She sat there beaming at you on the tv and didn't take her eyes of you for a single second. Then every single time you came on the TV after that she gave the exact same reaction. Let me tell you, she's never ever had that reaction to anyone on TV before so I knew you was special to her."
OMG, y’all. We are currently suppressing the urge to bawl like a baby but also failing miserably.
