Another proposal? OK, Ed Sheeran is officially a human cupid
Maybe next year we should rename Valentine’s Day to Ed Sheeran Day, since the singer is responsible for roughly a half of all the love happening in the world right now. Seriously. Assisting with just one or two proposals isn’t enough for him. It seems he’s got to do at least one every other day. And, this past weekend, he helped another couple get engaged on stage.
Early on the morning of the 25th, Sheeran tweeted that he had “something planned for tonight you won’t expect.” Hate to break it to you, Ed, but we are kinda expecting lots of proposals all the time now.
Later that night, for his show in Dublin, Ireland, he invited Kodaline and Glen Hansard up onto the stage to perform with him. That’s not all that happened though. Sheeran gets the ball rolling by asking, “Jay… would love to say a few words.” That’s when Kodaline’s bassist, Jason Boland, popped the question to his childhood sweetheart and long-term girlfriend, Etaoin Corr. She, OF COURSE, said yes over the screams of 80,000 fans in the audience. You can watch this whole thing happen here, starting at the 4:00 mark.
This proposal comes right on the heels of another proposal last week, when Sheeran helped Rixton’s Jack Roche get engaged to Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson. And that’s still on top of the fan proposals that happen during his show, too. Because sometimes the love just hits you hard listening to “Thinking Out Loud” performed live, you know?
Back in May, Sheeran told Entertainment Weekly that these proposals happen “every single day” for him and he likes the spontaneous ones the best. As he explained to EW, at one of his past shows “[There was] a dude sitting in the second row, every now and then he’d pull out a banner that just said, “Proposal on stage?” and then close it. And halfway through the gig I was like, ‘Just come up!’ So that was cool. And I felt something because of that because it was so spontaneous—I got emotional watching it.”
Love might be in the air, and it is clearly a very thick and heavy air at an Ed Sheeran concert. Wonder who’s going to be next to pop the question onstage with Sheeran’s assistance.
