Ed Sheeran opened up about dating mistakes he’s made in the past, and why his love life is so strong right now

Relationships are HARD. And being a celebrity doesn’t make it any easier. Which is why we’re so thrilled to hear that musician Ed Sheeran spent the year with girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, and it’s a huge part of the reason why things are better than ever.
In an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats 1/Apple Music, Sheeran said,
"This has been the first time I've ever actually had the time to fall in love properly. I've always got into relationships very passionate – I'm a redhead and also Irish. But then I will get in a relationship and go on tour for 18 months and everything will f*ck up. And I'm like, ‘Oh, what happened?' But it's because I had no time to put into someone."
This was why Sheeran said he wanted to take time out and truly build a foundation with girlfriend Seaborn (who he first met in high school, but didn’t start dating until years later).
He went on to say, “So the catalyst for taking a year off was also the fact that my partner, she quit her job in New York. We were basically like, ‘Let’s both quit our jobs and let’s have a year off forming a tight bond and a relationship.’ So we went traveling and spent every day for a year together…We’re very, very strong. I’ve never been happier. I’ve never been more comfortable. I’ve never been more inspired. I sort of feel like everything’s falling into place because I’ve given it time.”
And while being able to take an entire year off from life and travel with your significant other is a luxury most of us will never know, there is actually an incredibly important truth behind what Sheeran is saying. Relationships take nurturing, and if you aren’t able to put time and energy into them, they can shrivel away.
We’re glad that Sheeran was able to take a step back from the crazy world of celebrity and focus on something incredibly real, and we’re so glad he’s in such a great place.
Now, MORE MUSIC PLEASE!
