Ed Sheeran wrote a song to help his friend pay her mortgage
Of course we love Ed Sheeran to the moon and back. How could we not? In addition to giving us some of our favorite pop ballads of recent years, he’s also constantly working overtime helping people with their marriage proposals, dueting with his biggest middle school fans, giving us all the tattoo goals, becoming a doctor (okay, an HONORARY doctor, but still), the list goes on. And, as we learned recently, Sheeran is also an A+ friend.
As Time reports, Sheeran recently told The Mirror that he wrote his hit single ‘Thinking Out Loud” with his childhood friend Amy Wadge for a very noble and do-gooder-y reason.
“Amy was going through financial troubles about a year ago,” Sheeran explained. “She drove to my house – my album was nearly done – and she asked if I could put a song from when I was 17 on the deluxe album, so she could get a little bit of money and pay the mortgage and bills and stuff.”
So, of course, when you’re big-time famous and your forever-friend is like “Ugh, bills, bank account, MY LIFE,” of course you help, of course you do.
“While she was there, we wrote ‘Thinking Out Loud’,” he told The Mirror, AKA the hit song off his album ‘x’ that sold a million copies in the UK last year, and spent 8 weeks as the #2 son on the Billboard Hot 100. This was HUGE for Madge and, as Sheeran puts it: “Now she never has to worry about money again.”
We’re pretty obsessed with this Cinderella story, and are thrilled to be able to add “fairy godmother” to the long list of the awesome roles Sheeran plays on the regular. Keep up the sweetheart work, Ed, you are A+ at making dreams come true.
