Ed Sheeran says it’s going to be a “long time” before his next album

Bad news for Sheerios — and yes, fans of Ed Sheeran have a name, and it’s great, and we’re going to keep on embracing it. But serious talk, Sheerios. The good news is that Sheeran is releasing a brand new track on FRIDAY. The bad news is that this will be his last new track for a while.

If you need 10-45 minutes to cry, it’s OK. Let it all out. I personally think “Lego House” is a really good crying song.

Getting back to the good news, Sheeran is dropping a single on Friday with the band, Rudimental. This new song, called “Lay It On Me,” is off of the band’s second album, which is then coming out the following Friday, October 2.

But OK, let’s get back to this no good, very bad news, that came straight from Sheeran himself. First, he tweeted out the joyous news about the new single and we were all like YAY!

Then he dropped this bomb on us and we were like NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

We’re going to need to know the time frame of “a long time.” Is that like… one month? Three? Six months? Don’t tell us it’ll be a YEAR or more, Sheeran. Seeing as how we might be waiting a while, we sure better like “Lay It On Me.”

On the plus side of this bad news, Sheeran is already thinking about his third album! That’s a little silver lining, right? Not like he’s leaving music behind forever, just taking a breather before he dives back into recording again. Besides, he’s earned a break. He’s got one more stop on the American leg of his tour — this Friday, actually — before he jets off to Australia for a few shows there. And don’t forget his sold-out three-night Wembley stadium shows. AND, his upcoming role in the brand new FX show, The Bastard Executioner.

So yeah, rest up Sheeran. Go get a few more tattoos. But then, back to the studio. Our hearts and our ears can’t be without some brand new beautiful music for too long.
