Dwayne Johnson just super excitedly confirmed his role in the “Jumanji” reboot
It may have seemed as though Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson found his most fitting remake in the forthcoming Baywatch movie, but it turns out the wrestler turned actor has signed on to reimagine another classic tale he is so perfect for that it seems like a game…and it is! Yes fans, the Jumanji reboot is happening, and the Rock is on board!
“There’s games you play for fun… then there’s games that change your life. JUMANJI,” the 43-year-old movie star confirmed yesterday on his Instagram page with a photo alongside a very cute dog. “It’s OFFICIAL: Love this script!” he added. “To take great properties that are beloved worldwide like #BAYWATCH and #RAMPAGE and have the opportunity [to] reimagine their stories in dope new ways to a whole new generation is truly an honor.”
While little else is known about the exciting remake, Johnson’s Instagram post confirmed a script is currently in progress.
The original movie was adapted from a Chris Van Allsburg book of the same name. Released in 1995 and starring Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt and a young Kirsten Dunst, it tells the story of two kids playing a magical board game that comes to life, releasing a man (played by Williams) who had been trapped in the game for decades.
News of a remake first circulated in August 2015, but Sony revealed only titles and a Christmas 2016 release date. However, according to Johnson’s Instagram post, shooting will begin this fall, which means fans should anticipate a 2017 release date.
We can’t wait to see what kind of moves he’s got brewing in the box on this one!
