Saved by the Bell star Dustin Diamond died Monday, February 1st, after a short battle with cancer, his rep confirmed to People. The actor was 44 years old at the time of his death, and, according to his rep, he did not suffer.
In a statement provided to People, his rep wrote, “We are saddened to confirm of Dustin Diamond’s passing on Monday, February 1st, 2021 due to carcinoma. He was diagnosed with this brutal, relentless form of malignant cancer only three weeks ago. In that time, it managed to spread rapidly throughout his system; the only mercy it exhibited was its sharp and swift execution. Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful.”
Diamond was hospitalized in January after experiencing severe pain, which turned out to be stage 4 small cell carcinoma, according to People. He underwent a round of chemotherapy and was scheduled for a second round soon. However, the cancer moved too quickly for any treatment.
The actor is best known for his role as Samuel “Screech” Powers on Saved by the Bell, a role he played for more than a decade on various series. He also appeared on Celebrity Fit Club, The Weakest Link, and Celebrity Boxing 2.
