Tom Hardy faces the harsh realities of war in this intense “Dunkirk” teaser

Prepare for some seriously heart-pounding action, everybody. A new teaser for Dunkirk has dropped — and it’s incredibly intense.

The fast-paced, action-packed trailer gives a sneak peak of the upcoming film, which tells the true story of 400,000 Allied troops trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk, France. There’s also some quick glimpses of the star-studded cast, which includes Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, and Harry Styles.

If you feel skittish and on edge just watching the teaser, it’s nothing compared to how the actors felt shooting the film.

In an interview with Empire, Branagh explained that the film’s writer-director, Christopher Nolan, wanted to keep everybody on their feet and in character as much as possible.

“In terms of film comforts, there were none. Once you put on the costume and went out there, that’s where you stayed," he explained. "There’s no sitting about or checking out at all…I mean, Chris doesn’t sit down. Nobody else sits down. Nobody gets a cup of tea… He has a rather puritanical sort of determination to fight anything that brings a bit of movie softness to the experience.

Styles seconded that sentiment, adding that all of the discomfort added to the performances.

“The toughest days were the ones in the water, he said. “But at least it meant you didn’t have to act cold. By making it real and having things blow up around you and stuff, you get those natural reactions.

We’re very much looking forward to seeing this intensity unfold in theaters come July 21st…realistically, while intermittently burying our heads in our hands.
