This girl’s dress code violation is the most confusing one yet
Uh oh, not again. Another dress code violation is making the rounds on the Internet, and you genuinely won’t believe it. With the recent spotlight on the unfair treatment of women when it comes to school clothing, you’d think those who discipline them would stop and think before making a decision that could end up going viral. However, it’s important that these unfair practices are given the attention they warrant, and teens like Carey Burgess won’t let sexist comments and rules go without a fight.
The 17-year-old student at Beaufort High School was only twenty minutes into her day at school before things took an unexpected turn. While walking down the hallway, a teacher called out to her, saying, “Your skirt is too short. You need to go to in-school suspension and then go home.”
Casey, flabbergasted by the punishment, posted a photo and statement on Instagram and Facebook to explain how what happened to her was unequivocally unfair.
Here are some of my favorite parts of her post:
And:
While Carey was given an in-school suspension and sent home, it turns out that her outfit didn’t actually violate the dress code. While the principal stands by how the teacher handled the situation, he also says he admires Carey’s post. “You can feel the emotion in her words,” he told the Beaufort Gazette. “Something like that, that’s impressive.”
Carey is more than impressive — she’s a role model, and a perfect example of why attitudes and dress codes need some serious rethinking.
