Dream Come True: My Birthday With Katy Perry

As far as birthday gifts go, tickets to Katy Perry’s Prismatic World Tour are pretty much unbeatable. (Thanks, Mom and Dad)! From her inspiring performance to the flying emoji to the glow-in-the-dark costumes, the show was unforgettable! But what was even more unforgettable, was meeting my idol, Katy, in person, thanks to my friends at HelloGiggles! Right before the show began, a young woman named Sam approached my friends and I with an envelope in her hands. We opened it up and my heart skipped a beat, because inside were four Meet-and-Greet passes for after the show! I was ecstatic at the thought of meeting Katy Perry, face-to-face.

When the show ended, we met Sam at the gate with the passes she had given us. My friends and I, along with a handful of other lucky KatyKats, were led through the large hallways of the Prudential Center, to a main hallway right near the dressing rooms. We were told to wait outside and that Katy would be coming soon. As we stood against the wall, my heart started to race with anticipation. What should I say? What should I do? Is this really happening? I was so nervous – I’d dreamed of meeting Katy Perry since I saw her at TD Garden on her California Dreams Tour!

Then Katy casually entered the hall, in a tightly belted polka dot bathrobe with her hair slicked back into a bun. As she walked toward me, I was filled with panic and excitement. She said “hi” and asked if I wanted to take a picture. After we took a selfie, she wished me a happy birthday and gave me a birthday hug! I’ll never lose my bedazzled cat ears, which she said that she liked. When Katy is on stage performing, she gives off so much energy, but when we met in person, she wasn’t afraid to be real and a little tired from all of the hard work she put into the show! I thought that was really cool, that she can be real and be herself with her fans.

Meeting your idol is something that very few people get to do and I am beyond lucky to have gotten to meet Katy. Her hard work, music, and lyrics really inspire me. Katy is such an inspiration to me because she is powerful, confident, she doesn’t give up, and she loves herself and wants her fans to do the same. The whole experience was too good to be true, I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday!
