AubRih fans, freak out: Drake just sang an adorable tribute for Rihanna’s birthday
Even in this Information Age where we currently have the news of the world available at our fingertips, there are still some things we will never, ever know: like the nature of the relationship between Drake and Rihanna.
Just when we thought the two were “done” with whatever they were doing for good thanks to Drake’s relationship with Jennifer Lopez, he performed a sweet tribute for Rih’s 29th birthday on Monday, February 20th that has us totally confused all over again.
…And maybe that’s exactly how they like it?
“It’s somebody’s birthday today — somebody I have a lot of love for and a lot of respect for,” Drake began onstage during his concert in Dublin, Ireland. “So instead of singing ‘Happy Birthday,’ though, we just going to do this in Dublin. Instead of singing ‘Happy Birthday,’ we’re going to set it off just like this…”
At this point, Drake began a performance of “Work,” his (stellar) collaboration with Rihanna from her (also very stellar) 2016 Anti album. false
The tribute and performance were both super sweet, but like…if you were a fan at that concert, wouldn’t you hear “Work” and expect Rih to come out and sing, then be super disappointed when she didn’t show up?
But no matter. Through their ups and downs and relationships with other people, at least this very public tribute made it clear that AubRih will be friends forever, JLo or nah.
“She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old,” Drake famously said at the 2016 Video Music Awards. “She’s one of my best friends in the world. She’s a living, breathing legend in our industry.”
Ain’t. That. The. TRUTH.
