Drake isn’t up for two Grammy Awards this year, but how many does he already have?
Update, January 23rd, 2020, 5:30 p.m. ET: The 62nd annual Grammy Awards will air on Sunday, January 26th on CBS at 5:00 p.m. PT. The 2020 Grammy Awards will be hosted by Alicia Keys at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. Drake has two nominations for the 2020 Grammys as a featured artist—”No Guidance” by Chris Brown nominated for Best R&B Song and “Gold Roses” by Rick Ross for Best Rap Song. Drake has four Grammys currently, securing a Best Rap Song award for “God’s Plan” in 2019. He’s also up to 44 Grammy nominations, counting his two 2020 spots. There’s no word yet on whether or not Drake will attend the 2020 Grammy Awards Ceremony.
The 60th annual Grammy Awards will air on Sunday, January 28th on CBS at 4:30 p.m. PT. Hosted by James Corden, the 2018 Grammy Awards will take place at New York’s Madison Square Garden for the first time since 2003. Rapper Jay-Z leads the nominations with eight nods. Childish Gambino, Lorde, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, and Kendrick Lamar are contending for the coveted Album of the Year category.
Artists like Cardi B, SZA, Khalid, Portugal. The Man, and LCD Soundsystem (among many others) are all up for nominations. However, some of our favorites are noticeably absent from the list, including Drake. Billboard reported in October that the Passionfruit singer did not submit his album “More Life” for Grammy consideration, and will be sitting out the 2018 Grammy Awards this year. Notably, in a February 2017 interview with Britain’s DJ Semtex, the Toronto-born artist expressed frustration with the Recording Academy’s categorization of Hotline Bling as a rap. Drake said:
"I’m a black artist, I’m apparently a rapper, even though 'Hotline Bling' is not a rap song," he said. "The only category that they can manage to fit me in is in a rap category, maybe because I’ve rapped in the past or because I’m black."
So, you’re probably wondering: How many Grammys does Drake have?
Drake has won three Grammys: Best Rap Album for “Take Care” and Best Rap Collaboration and Best Rap Song for Hotline Bling. In sum, Drake has racked up 35 Grammy nominations.
Despite sitting out the Grammys this year, something tells us it’s no major loss for the artist. Between his friendship with Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown and the release of killer new tracks God’s Plan and Diplomatic Immunity, Aubrey Graham has already won.
