Dr. Dre is releasing his first album in 16 years. We’re ready
For a lot of people, a big pay day is followed by a big vacation — or at least a well-earned break. For Dr. Dre, who just sold his insanely-popular Beats by Dre brand for a cool $3.2 billion, however, that’s definitely not the case.
Instead of taking anything resembling a break, the rap legend decided to get back in the studio. He’ll be releasing his first album in 16 years, and it could come as soon as August 1.
“It’s mega,” friend and fellow NWA rapper Ice Cube told Philadelphia’s Power 99 FM. “It’s Dr. Dre. It’s what everybody has been waiting for. It’s definitely a dope record, and he’s dropping it all on the same day.”
With no mention of a single, let alone an album title, it seems like Dr. Dre really is saving all the surprises for the album’s release date.
Though Dre has kept a low profile about the project, he did hint to LA’s Real 92.3 that he was working on “a record inspired by a movie” last March. Ice Cube confirmed that Dre was, indeed, using the new NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton, to inspire the album. In fact, the album is rumored to be serving as the film’s soundtrack.
There’s a rumor circulating that Dre is will officially confirm the soundtrack on his Beats 1 radio show, The Pharmacy, this Saturday, August 1.
Whether this new batch of music will be used for the Straight Outta Compton soundtrack or (fingers crossed) Dre’s long lost Detox album, we’re ready to welcome these tunes with open ears.
