Watch Matt Damon face a mini midlife crisis in the new “Downsizing” trailer

In a world crammed with remakes and sequels, it’s always refreshing to see a little something new (emphasis on little). Okay, yes, we’ve seen movies about shrunken humans before — Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Ant-Man, etc. But in the just-released second trailer for Downsizing, starring Matt Damon, the concept takes on an imaginative layer of big-picture what-ifs that feels fresh (and pretty funny, TBH).

Downsizing (in theaters December 22nd) stars Damon as Paul, a frustrated dude who decides to undergo the titular “downsizing” procedure with his wife (Kristen Wiig) to live a more comfortable life and combat overpopulation.

The only problem, according to the new Downsizing trailer, is that Wiig’s character, Audrey, isn’t onboard the whole super-small train.

The first trailer for the buzzy movie focused more on the clever premise of shrinking as a means to better the world and the individual.

The new teaser dives deeper (and dinky-er) into Damon’s personal journey, and the big impact he’s able to make once he goes small. This time, we see costar Hong Chau steal the show, and Christoph Waltz and Jason Sudeikis drop in, too.

Plus, setting any preview to The Talking Heads’ “Once in a Lifetime” pretty much guarantees we’re going to want to see it.

With a whole bunch of holiday blockbusters we’re psyched about on the way — Justice League, Murder on the Orient Express, Coco, The Last Jedi, I, Tonya — our movie theater schedule’s basically booked for the next couple months. But seeing as most of the characters in Downsizing are only five inches tall, we’re going to go ahead and say we can definitely squeeze it in.
