After Donald Trump claimed there was a tragedy in Sweden, people have hilarious suggestions of what it might have been
First there was the “Bowling Green massacre,” the nonexistent incident mentioned by President Trump’s adviser Kellyanne Conway to justify the Muslim travel ban. Now Trump claims there was a tragedy in Sweden, which, you guessed it, never happened.
During a rally in Florida, Trump shared his two cents on refugee laws in Europe.
And, in doing so, he noted a number of countries that he claims have been affected by terrorists as a result.
“You look at what’s happening, he said, according to the New York Times. “We’ve got to keep our country safe. You look at what’s happening in Germany, you look at what’s happening last night in Sweden. Sweden, who would believe this?
This prompted many to ask questions, including the former Swedish prime minister, who took to Twitter to respond.
Sweden? Terror attack? What has he been smoking? Questions abound. https://t.co/XWgw8Fz7tj

As The New York Times points out, he never directly stated there was a terrorist attack in Sweden.
However, given the context and lack of clarity of his comments, it’s easy to see why people were confused. There was, in fact, no terror attack last night, which plenty of Swedish people have confirmed.

But that didn’t stop Twitter from having some fun with the false claim, by making up a series of alternative ideas.
Here’s some of the best of the Twittersphere on the matter.
Chelsea Clinton chimed in with a zinger of her own that had us LOLing.
What happened in Sweden Friday night? Did they catch the Bowling Green Massacre perpetrators?

And some even got ABBA involved.

This definitely feels like an “Error 404” situation.

And, of course, plenty of IKEA jokes were involved. false false false
At least we can all find things to laugh about in all this craziness.
