Donald Trump spelled this word wrong in a tweet — again — and Twitter isn’t letting him get away with it
Once again, Donald Trump’s Twitter account has sparked an internet-wide controversy. While his posts often go un-spell-checked (covfefe, anyone?), this last typo is one that the Twittersphere just can’t brush off. For the second time in two weeks, Trump spelled the word “heal” wrong. Oh, Trump and his tweets.
In a now-deleted post about the effects of Hurricane Harvey, Trump wrote: “Texas is heeling fast thanks to all of the great men & women who have been working so hard. But still, so much to do. Will be back tomorrow!”
Even though he took the tweet down, plenty of people took screengrabs and it will live on forever.

Sure, everyone’s entitled to make a fifth-grade level spelling mistake once in a while.
But this isn’t the first time that the president has had trouble with the tricky homophones.
The first offense (that we know of) occurred a couple weeks ago during a white nationalist rally and counter-protest in Boston. Trump made a statement and tweeted a typo. He spelled the word “heal” incorrectly not once, but twice in a single post. Later, he made a second attempt — and made the same spelling mistake AGAIN. He eventually got it right on the third try.
After suffering the crippling Twitter backlash once, you’d think he’d have committed H-E-A-L to memory.
While this isn’t the Tweet that launched a thousand covfefe memes, Twitter is still having its fun. Because where there is a spelling error, there’s a great pun to be had.

Sure, these are all chuckle-worthy jokes. But the ultimate shade came from the golden book of literacy itself, the dictionary. Merriam-Webster Tweeted the definition of the three notoriously difficult-to-master (for the president, at least) homophones.
