Donald Trump responded to Matt Lauer’s firing in the most Trump way possible

On November 28th, Matt Lauer was fired from his longtime post at NBC. The network announced on November 29th that the Today host had been let go after an unnamed employee accused him of “inappropriate sexual behavior.” Naturally, Donald Trump has weighed in on Lauer’s firing and, of course, he made it about “fake news.” Because when something happens, the president can always relate it to his own ego.

Trump tweeted: “Wow, Matt Lauer was just fired from NBC for ‘inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.’ But when will the top executives at NBC & Comcast be fired for putting out so much Fake News. Check out Andy Lack’s past!”

He followed that tweet up with this one: “So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin? And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the ‘unsolved mystery’ that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!”

In case you thought that Trump had ended his crusade against the media, he has not. While the world continues to grapple with the conversation about sexual misconduct and abuse of power, Trump is using this as an opportunity to slam media outlets he dislikes.

The other men Trump point to in the tweets are Andy Lack (the chairman of NBC News), Phil Griffin (the president of MSNBC), and Joe Scarborough (an MSNBC host). The “mystery” he mentions is the death of a staffer, who worked for Scarborough in 2001 and hit her head on a desk and died in his office. The death was ruled an accident and a closed case.

Page Six reports that Lauer sexually assaulted a female NBC staffer during the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014. The unnamed woman took the complaint directly to HR and her evidence was reportedly so convincing that they fired him immediately late Tuesday night.

NBC was aware that Variety was working on a bombshell story about sexual harassment allegations against Matt Lauer.

The New York Times and Variety had been working on investigations into Lauer’s behavior for several months now.
