It’s been two weeks since anyone has seen Donald Trump eating a cheeseburger

There’s at least one person still plugging away at their New Year’s resolution, and it’s probably not whom you’d expect. In a surprising twist, President Donald Trump has reportedly given up his go-to cheeseburgers for salad and soup. The dietary change comes amid new efforts to introduce healthier options throughout the West Wing.

We already knew that Trump’s daily routine, which at one time included drinking 12 Diet Cokes and watching eight hours of television, wasn’t exactly the picture of health. But in January, shortly after he tweeted that he was a “very stable genius,” Trump’s first presidential physical apparently concluded he was also in “excellent health.”

Clearly.

According to Bloomberg, Trump has traded burgers for salads after weighing in at borderline obese at his physical. He’s doing so at the urging of his doctor, Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson, who has encouraged him to eat less fat and carbohydrates. Jackson, alongside Vice President Mike Pence’s doctor Jennifer Pena, has been encouraging healthier food choices in the White House.

The food swaps are quite a big change, considering the book Let Trump Be Trump claimed the president’s dinner on the campaign trail regularly included “two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish, and a chocolate [milkshake].” And yes, that single meal definitely amounts to more than 2,000 calories.

We’re less concerned about what Donald Trump eats than we are his actions within the White House, though.

For example, it was recently revealed that outgoing White House communications director Hope Hicks has sometimes told “white lies” on Trump’s behalf. The president’s ongoing and destructive Twitter habit also worries us, especially since he appears to spend more time tweeting than working for the American people.

Even worse? In 2017, Trump’s repeated falsehoods amounted to a whopping 1,950 false or misleading claims over the course of a single year. His latest actions to mislead the public on gun control are just as troubling.

Regardless of what Donald Trump eats while he’s in office, we care more about what he’s actually doing. We hope he reaps the benefit of a healthy diet, however. With any luck, Trump can use the much-needed energy boost to create some positive change where we need it.
