Twitter is roasting Donald Trump Jr. so hard for his post about “self-awareness”

Another day, another divisive tweet from the Trump family. Donald Trump Jr., who just last week ignited scorn on Twitter for misappropriating the hashtag #MeToo is stirring the pot on social media yet again. This time, the president’s eldest child is the subject of ridicule for tweeting about self-awareness.

Yesterday, May 7th, the New Yorker reported that four women had accused New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman of abuse. Trump used the accusations as an opportunity to point out Schneiderman’s hypocrisy. The president’s son shared the initial story when it broke, and throughout the day continued to share and mock old tweets from the disgraced attorney general, who later resigned early on May 8th.

Out of Trump’s Twitter blitz, one tweet in particular attracted attention. The evening of the 7th, Trump retweeted an April post from Schneiderman applauding the New Yorker and the New York Times for exposing Harvey Weinstein’s predatory behavior. And he used the retweet to comment on Schneiderman’s lack of self-awareness.

“Self awareness [sic] level: 0,” Trump wrote in the tweet. “Or substantially less than that.”

Twitter users rushed to point out that Trump’s comment about self-awareness was ironic, given that his own father has been accused of sexually harassing or assaulting more than 17 women, including his first wife, Ivana. Meanwhile, the White House has maintained that these allegations are lies, and others were quick to remind the president’s son that his father’s accusers had gone unheard.

Here are some of the best clapbacks from Twitter.

One user even alluded to other members of the Trump administration facing sexual abuse allegations.

Before his resignation, Schneiderman frequently challenged the Trump administration’s policies. Notably, he initiated lawsuits over the decisions to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and lower pollution standards.

Trump’s latest tweets demonstrate an incredible lack of self-awareness. Schneiderman’s alleged behavior is appalling, but so is Trump’s willingness to ignore his father’s accusers. If Trump truly cared about stopping sexual misconduct, he would listen to victims, no matter who they were speaking out against.
