Donald Glover and Rihanna’s mysterious “Guava Island” is about to stream for free—but only for a limited time

Donald Glover is up to something. In August, he was spotted with Rihanna in Cuba, sparking speculation of a collab—and it turns out the rumors are true. Glover gave fans a sneak peek of his and Rihanna’s new project, titled “Guava Island,” at New Zealand’s PHAROS festival on November 24th. “Guava Island” is being marketed as “a Childish Gambino film.” Does this mean Childish will now be Glover’s screen name rather than stage name? Or is “Guava Island” a feature-length Lemonade-like video album to cap off the moniker (which he has previously said he would soon be retiring)?

Well, it looks like we’re going to find out very soon.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the project will stream on Amazon Prime Video on Saturday, April 13th after it premieres at Coachella—so at 12:01 a.m. PT (3:01 a.m ET). The project will be FREE to stream for the first 18 hours, specifically at the link

Some sources claim “Guava Island” is actually a full-length film, costarring Letitia Wright and Nonso Anozie. On November 24th, a Rihanna fan account tweeted that it’s “an action/crime movie and should be out soon.” And in August, a Childish Gambino fan account also called the project a “movie.” The project was directed by Hiro Murai, whose credits include the “This Is America” music video, several Atlanta episodes, and Glover’s 2013 film, Because The Internet.

Many people have been trying to figure out what this project is about.

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out.
