The first picture of Donald Glover in the Young Han Solo movie is here, and oh my Lando
Well friends, we finally have it: our first photo of Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian in the still untitled Han Solo film.
Just one month after taking over as director for the film — following the firing of Chris Miller and Phil Lord, a dramatic saga that will one day (probably) be the subject of a film itself —Ron Howard gave us our first glimpse of Glover as Lando. Howard’s been sharing photos from the set since arriving at Pinewood Studios in London, but this is our first glimpse at one of the actors.
Taking to Instagram to share a #moneyshot from the director’s monitor, Howard cleverly revealed Glover-as-Lando on the monitor itself.
While the photo is, in more ways than one, a very small glimpse at Glover’s Young Lando, it definitely gives us some key details as to what to expect from the film. In the photo, Lando appears to be hunched over, looking down — playing a *certain* game of sabacc, maybe?
Howard’s head is strategically covering a second monitor, which we think is *probably* blocking Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo. But where are the smugglers?
Here’s a closer look at Glover-as-Lando on the monitor:
Based on what’s going on in the background of the shot — the many buttons and the pilot control seat hiding in the corner — it certainly looks like Lando’s in some sort of spaceship or station…the Millennium Falcon, maybe?
The actor is taking over the role of iconic smuggler — and former Millennium Falcon owner — turned Baron Administrator from Billy Dee Williams, who played Lando in The Emperor Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi. Lando may have a new face, but it looks like the new film is keeping his signature style.
We’re glad Howard is giving us little glimpses of the film, but we’re desperate for just a tiny clip (or maybe even trailer) from the upcoming Han Solo epic. The film, which also stars Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Thandie Newton, is slated to hit theaters on May 25th, 2018.
