Finally, someone turned dogs into Marvel superheroes!
We all know that dogs are man’s best friend – this is nothing new – but this begs an even bigger question. What would it look like if dogs were called upon to save humanity as some of the most famous superheroes in today’s culture? Thanks to one illustrator, now we have an idea of exactly how that could pan out.
Josh Lynch, who hails from Minnesota, started drawing his DOTMU (Dogs Of The Marvel Universe) series by turning his own family’s dogs into Marvel comic book characters.
Lynch and his family have two dogs (a mixed-breed named Fing Fang Foom and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel called Miles), but Lynch doesn’t limit himself to drawing just those breeds – he’s also drawn pugs, Greyhounds and many others.
In an interview with Mashable, Lynch said that the project “started as a one off thing but I had so much fun I kept going.”
“I’m trying to balance the male presence in the series with a lot more female characters in future installments,” he continued. “Particularly because my daughter seems to enjoy them.”
When it comes to matching a breed with a superhero, Lynch says he likes to consider the potential — and it totally makes sense that a superhero like Thor would be a big lovable Golden Retriever — but mostly he’s doing this just because it’s fun. “Sometimes it’s personality, sometimes it’s physical attributes, and sometimes it’s just whatever I feel like drawing.”
Thanks to this series going viral, Lynch is definitely having a hard time keeping up with demand — everyone wants a print of these superdogs! Check out some of our favorites below.
You can find more of Josh Lynch’s work on his official website or his Tumblr page — and you can follow him for updates as he continues to work on the next additions to the Marvel Dogs series.
