White House dogs Bo and Sunny have an important message about keeping your pets safe during Hurricane Joaquin

This just in from the East Coast: It’s wet. It’s rainy, windy and generally unpleasant. We’re curled up inside waiting to see how Hurricane Joaquin, AKA the “Will they or won’t they” of storms, is going to affect us. As you plan ahead for this (or any) storm, there’s someone important you can’t forget: your pet!

To help spread the message, Bo and Sunny—the smiley and adorable Obama family dogs—star in a cute video with a serious message. They have tips to help you prepare and care for your dogs during natural disasters. The video was shared on Boo the Dog’s Facebook page. Because famous dogs stick together, of course.

“Keep in mind that what’s best for you is typically what’s best for your pets,” the video tells us. It also suggests you pack a pet survival kit with everything you could possibly need for your furry friend, like food, medications, vet records, bottled water and food dishes. Don’t forget treats and a favorite toy! You never know when you’ll have to leave at a moment’s notice.

Other important tips include keeping pets inside, having a secure way to transport your pet, pre-identifying pet-friendly shelters that will accept your furry friend should you need to evacuate (like a hotel) and making sure all identification is current.

Bo also points out that September is National Preparedness Month, and the timing of it with the threat of Hurricane Joaquin is almost too coincidental. Remember, a little preparation can go a long way. Your pet is family! And is totally going to be depending on you to take care of their cute face during a disaster. Even if you don’t have a pet to look out for during this hurricane, you should definitely still watch the adorable video just to see Sunny Obama use a selfie stick.

Okay, okay, let’s the cuteness/education commence, it’s video time!
