This dog forgot he wasn’t a squirrel and got stuck in a tree, ’cause who among us

If you don’t hear a dog moving frantically around your house at all times, you should get suspicious. Case in point: This dog got stuck in a tree because he forgot he wasn’t a squirrel. The photos are precious and adorable.

In the last year alone, we were gifted with some pretty amazing dog stories. Who can forget the dog who got scared by its owner, or the brave pup who tried to eat a lime? But at the end of the day, none of those canines had two State Troopers figuring out a way to get them out of a tree. And that’s why this particular dachshund takes the cake.

Meet Rocco.

On June 2nd, two off-duty Kentucky State Troopers met a small dachshund who got stuck inside a tree. Sergeant Michael Williams and Trooper Gerick Sullivan were busy mowing a cemetery nearby when they started to hear Rocco’s frantic barking. Upon further inspection, they saw his little tiny head poking out of the tree trunk. After that, it was just a matter of finding a way to get him out safely.

Rocco got in through a groundhog hole.

Guess he just forgot that he was a dog for a hot second. In fact, he didn’t think it through at all. Because his little body was able to wedge itself inside of the hole, but he just had no way of getting back out.

Rescuers had to cut a large hole into the side of the tree trunk so they could pull Rocco through. They even made the original groundhog hole larger, so that other dogs wouldn’t suffer the same fate.

But it all worked out in the end!

Rocco was returned safe and sound to his owners.

Hopefully, he learned his lesson. Or at least, he learned that he isn’t a squirrel or groundhog.
