Ok, this is totally a dog saying ‘mama’

We knew Australian shepherds were smart dogs, but this takes the cake. (Or maybe the dog biscuit?)

YouTuber Sam Giovanini uploaded a video recently that showed what happened when the family tried to teach their baby how to say “mama.” Spoiler alert: things didn’t go down as planned.

Mom offers the baby a bite of yummy-looking take-out, and encourages him to try and talk while she waves the fork around. The family dog, Patches (so cute!), is right by baby’s side. Because he’s a dog, man’s best friend and all. Except now there’s food is involved, and Patch can’t quite help himself. He woofs for a few seconds, and we want to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he’s simply encouraging the baby along with the rest of the family. But then he totally steals the baby’s thunder and blurts out mama. (I swear to god if this is somehow manipulated footage do not tell us. We want to believe Patches is saying “mama.”)

Well played, Patches. Well played.

Once Patches gets going, he can’t stop. He mamas his little doggy heart out, and the baby is NOT having it.

We actually kind of sympathize with the baby. Most of us know what it’s like to have a brother or sister who always insists on stealing the show. Just usually that obnoxious sibling isn’t a completely adorable, remarkably talented dog. Can you imagine what’s in store later on down the line? We can totally see Patches learning multiplication tables or entering a spelling bee in the next few years.

Speaking of treats . . . Patches eventually got his treat for saying “mama.” (Just in case you’re wondering.) We’re not sure if baby ever caught on. No worries, though. He’ll get there.

If Patches ever lets him get a word in edgewise.
