It doesn’t look like we’ll be getting a female Doctor in “Doctor Who” anytime soon

While we know that a regeneration is on the cards very, very soon, we’re absolutely gutted to learn that it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting a female Doctor in Doctor Who, and BOO HISS TO THAT!

It was revealed earlier this year that Peter Capaldi would be stepping down as the 12th iteration of the timelord known as the Doctor. The actor, along with new companion Pearl Mackie, who plays the hilarious Bill Potts, just embarked on the show’s 10th season, which began on BBC America on Saturday (April 15th), and sadly it’ll be his last turn as the iconic space traveller.

Of course, whenever there are changes in Doctor Who, people usually start to get very excited. More than often there are theories about who might take over the iconic role, and so far, since Capaldi announced the news, former 10th Doctor, David Tennant, has added his two cents into whom he thinks should take over: Olivia Coleman.

Along with Tennant’s suggestion, there are always flutterings about the potential that the famous timelord could be come the famous timelady. A whole list of incredible female actors could take on the role, and we’re pretty sure they’d add something rather special to it, too.

Despite how generally amazing it would be to have a female Doctor, however, it seems that the BBC, who produce the show, are putting a pin in any chatter about a woman taking over in Doctor Who.

The info came about after it emerged that someone had complained about the possibility that the next Doctor could be a woman *le sigh*.

As The Sun reports, BBC’s complaints officer Joanne Coyne  replied to this disgruntled “fan,” noting that there were no plans for a woman to take over.

"We appreciate that you’re a big Doctor Who fan and you have concerns that the programme would change should there be a female doctor," she wrote. "Be assured there are currently no plans to have a female Doctor Who.

Okay, so this news is absolutely gutting as we’d loved to have seen a female Doctor. However, if reports by The Mirror are to be believed, it doesn’t look like casting for the role is quite secured. Despite this, there have been some STRONG rumors that Kris Marshall will be taking over the role.

Marshall, you might remember, starred in Love Actually as the loveable (but kinda problematic) cater waiter Colin.

Regardless, it seems that we’re going to have to just wait and see when it comes to the casting of Doctor Who. We’re still hoping for a badass timelady…
