This doctor in labor helped ANOTHER woman give birth
If this story doesn’t convince you that women are strong as hell, we don’t know what will. A Kentucky OBGYN in labor helped another woman give birth when complications arose. Superheroes are real and are living in Kentucky!
Dr. Amanda Hess was preparing to be induced at Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort, Kentucky. She was in labor and already wearing her patient gown when she heard screaming coming from down the hall. Dr. Hess recognized the woman’s voice as that of a patient whom she had seen the week before at the woman’s final pre-natal appointment.
Dr. Hess put her own labor on hold and decided to see what she could do to help.
"I just put on another gown to cover up my backside and put on some boots over my shoes, to keep from getting any fluid and all that stuff on me, and went down to her room," Dr. Hess told local news station WKYT.
Meanwhile, Leah Halliday-Johnson, the screaming expectant mother, was being told by nurses not to push, even though her baby was ready to come out. Halliday-Johnson told People.comthat she had arrived to the hospital only 1-cm. dilated. But an hour later, her baby, umbilical cord loosely wrapped around her neck, was itching to enter the world.
Unfortunately, the on-call doctor was not back from break.
Dr. Hess’ fellow physician, Dr. Hala Sabry, wrote in Facebook post that Dr. Hess “overheard the nurses preparing for a woman in active labor who needed to deliver immediately because the baby was in distress — that baby was coming and needed help.”
So as any IRL Wonder Woman would do, Dr. Hess delivered Halliday-Johnson’s healthy baby girl, only a mere hours before delivering her own baby girl, Ellen Joyce. Halliday-Johnson wasn’t aware that Dr. Hess had come from her own hospital room. She just figured Dr. Hess was on duty.
"It’s life-affirming that there are these women out there watching out for other women," Halliday-Johnson told the site. "She has made me feel good about life."
