A super easy DIY rose garland that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day
It’s already February! That means a lot of things: that we’re one month closer to not-winter, and that there will soon be a lot of chocolate on sale. But, of course, it also means Valentine’s Day, and all of the pretty trappings that go along with it.
This week’s DIY was inspired by that classic Valentine’s Day gift: the bouquet of red roses. By removing the buds and leaves from bunches of fabric flowers and stitching them onto some ribbon, you can easily make a cute garland to drape on a window or across a bookcase. It’s fun, festive, and definitely sweet—just like Valentine’s Day!
Materials:
- 7/8-inch wide green ribbon
- 3 bunches of faux roses
- Green thread
- Basic sewing needle
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Fray check
Craft away:
- Measure and cut a 60-inch long piece of ribbon. Apply fray check to the ends, and let dry.
- Cut or pull the roses and leaves off of the stems. Leave a small stem at the end of each.
- Cut a few feet of the green thread and fold it in half, then thread the needle and tie a knot.
- Sew the roses to the ribbon, spacing them about 4 inches apart. To do this, loop your stitches around the stems several times.
- Sew the leaves in between the roses. You can keep the leaves in clumps, as shown, or separate them.
- You’re finished! Display your garland on a window frame or wall.
