Dress up your space with this DIY pompom wall hanging
Decorating an apartment can be hard. It’s often a small space, and most leases don’t allow for new, dramatic wall colors or extensive remodels. The fun part, though, is the creativity inspired by the constraints of apartment living. There are plenty of ways to personalize your space and still remain on speaking terms with your landlord.
This week’s DIY gives you one such option: a cute little wall hanging, made using felt pompoms and colorful yarn. It’s a great way to add some texture to a wall in need of pizzazz, and only takes an hour or two to put together. Plus, it just requires one nail in the wall to hang it up, so it’s security deposit friendly!
Materials:
- Thin wooden dowel
- Colorful yarn
- Colorful felt pompoms
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
Craft away:
- Carefully trim the dowel down to 17 inches in length.
- Cut 18 pieces of yarn, each 30 inches in length.
- Tie the pieces of yarn to the dowel, spacing them 1 inch apart. Trim the tied ends of the yarn close to the knots.
- One at a time, thread the end of the pieces of yarn through the needle. Slide pompoms onto the yarn, placing them where you’d like, and tie knots at the ends of the pompoms to hold them in place. You may need to poke holes through the pompoms with a sharper needle before threading them onto the tapestry needle.
- Cut a 28-inch long piece of yarn, and tie the ends to the ends of the dowel. Use the yarn to hang the piece on the wall.
- Measure the two outermost pieces of yarn, and trim them down to 21 inches.
- Measure the next two pieces of yarn, and trim them down to 22 inches.
- Continue measuring and cutting the yarn until you have a V-shaped edge to the piece, with the two longest pieces in the middle.
