Disneyland has canceled all upcoming runDisney marathons, and you’re going to have to hang up your running shoes for a while
Know that Disney half marathon you keep talking about running and then don’t train for whatsoever? Well, if you were planning on doing it at the Disneyland resort anytime next year, you’ve suddenly got a lot more time to think about training (or not train, and continue to sit on your couch binging Netflix, you do you). The Anaheim resort has just announced that, unfortunately, they are canceling all upcoming runDisney events.
But! Before you freak out too much, they aren’t canceled forever. Just for…like the next few years-ish.
As you have probably heard, a brand new land is coming to Disneyland — Star Wars Land Galaxy’s Edge. There’s a lot of ongoing construction in the area, and unfortunately, it means that the runDisney races can’t continue on as normal.
As the runDisney Blog writes:
"Given the level of construction to support the ongoing Disneyland Resort expansion, we have been working hard to determine how we can continue providing our West Coast participants with the best possible runDisney experience, which is designed around the ability to run throughout our resorts while enjoying entertainment offerings and characters." "After careful consideration and weighing all possibilities, we have made the very difficult decision to place all runDisney race weekends at Disneyland Resort on hiatus beginning in 2018. This includes the associated Coast to Coast Race Challenges."
The last race of the year, the Super Heroes Half Marathon — which is is scheduled for November 9-12, 2017 — will take place as normal. But everything after that? Not so much. There were a few other races listed on the runDisney site, but they never officially opened for registration, so thankfully Disney doesn’t have to issue thousands of refunds. Rather, they’ve just got to deal with a lot of disappointed race fans.
The cancelation of all races at Disneyland does not affect races at Disney World, which will continue on as normal. RunDisney at Disneyland hopes to be up and running ASAP, but who knows how long it’ll take to corral BB-8 into his meet and greet in Galaxy’s Edge.
