We taste-tested Halloween treats at Disneyland, and here’s what you need to snack on ASAP

It’s the most magical time of the year: Halloween at Disneyland resort!

Every year, the theme park in Anaheim, California goes all out when it comes to celebrating all things spooky, scary, and orange-y. This year, they even took the party across the esplanade to California Adventure, where Cars Land has been completely re-themed for a spook-tacular celebration. And honestly, even more exciting than getting to meet characters in Halloween garb is the food.

OH THE DISNEYLAND HALLOWEEN FOOD.

Recently, HelloGiggles ventured out to the happiest place on earth to sample some of these delicious, Halloween-themed treats. From dinner, to desserts, to bloody beverages, Disneyland has it all this year. After sampling many (many, many) of the items in the park, we’re here to present what we chowed down on, and what we loved — and that we’re totally going back to Disneyland to get again ASAP.

Mickey Mummy Macaroon

twelve.jpg

Location: Jolly Holiday Bakery
What is it: A vanilla macaroon with caramel filling.
Rachel’s review: WOW if I could marry this macaroon, I would. The actual macaroon was soft and flakey, and the insides were a perfect ration of caramel to sea salt. I wasn’t even that hungry, but I felt like I had to eat the whole thing because it was so damn good — and also not too sweet.
Anna’s review: I did not love this as much as Rachel did.

Snake and Spider Chocolate Goo (aka, Ooogie Boogie Cake)

fifteen.jpg

French Market Cafe, New Orleans Square, Disneyland
What is it: Dark chocolate cup with dark chocolate mousse and green pound cake, served with a chocolate Oogie Boogie on top.
Rachel’s review: TBH, I’m not a huge fan of chocolate cake, so this was a little much for me. I enjoyed the dark chocolate cup the most, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that Oogie Boogie was just a piece of chocolate (I ate most of him).
Anna’s review: I liked the inside of this. Oogie Boogie was also tasty and fun to destroy.

Enchanted Maize Flatbread

three.jpg

Enchanted Rose Tavern, Fantasyland, Disneyland
What is it: Flatbread with roasted corn, pickled red onions, Parmesan, spicy lime aïoli and chopped cilantro.
Rachel’s review: Don’t sleep on Disney’s flatbreads. The crust was nice and crisp, and the rest of the pizza was perfectly cheesy. The roasted corn was a nice touch, and I could probably eat a whole medium pizza like this. But I found myself super sleepy after devouring this pizza, so take that as you will.
Anna’s review: This was SO good, but it made me want to lay down and nap on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Green Apple Spell Lemonade (with BONUS: light-up poison apple cube)

lemonade.gif

Smokejumpers, Grizzly Peak, California Adventure
What is it: Lemonade with “bloody” sour cherry drops.
Rachel’s review: After water and coffee, lemonade is my favorite drink. I was all about this lemonade. It really was just a regular lemonade, but the sour cherry drops (you know, what make it look like the lemonade is BLEEDING) really put it over the top. 10/10, would chug again.
Anna’s review: I appreciate how the glow cube looks like a beating heart.

S’mores Churro

one.jpg

  • New Orleans Churro Card, New Orleans Square, Disneyland
  • What is it: Churro dusted with graham crackers and marshmallow and chocolate dipping sauce.
  • Rachel’s review: Big, BIG fan of this. The only thing that was a little difficult was that it seemed like a DIY churro. Sticking the churro into the marshmallow and chocolate sauce got a little messy. You couldn’t eat this as you walk through the park; this is very much a sit down and enjoy New Orleans Square snack.
  • Anna’s review: I wanted to do a shot with the marshmallow-chocolate sauce.

Worms Donut

twentyseven.jpg

Main Street cappuccino cart, Main Street U.S.A., Disneyland.
What is it: Maybe the best donut you’ve ever had in your entire life.
Rachel’s review: The donuts at the cappuccino cart are like Disney’s best kept secret. You might not realize that they’re there unless you’re looking for them, and tbh, they’re one of the best donuts I’ve ever had. So soft, so flavorful, so perfect in every way. This donut was literally just a frosted donut with worms, and I’ve been thinking about it every day for the past week.
Anna’s review: This frosting was some of the best donut frosting I’ve ever had. 10/10 would frost again.

Car-Achid Pot Pie

twentyone.jpg

Flo’s Diner, Cars Land, California Adventure
What is it: Chicken pot pie with dried cranberries and butter-crust spider
Rachel’s review: Interesting. I love a good pot pie, and this was fine. There wasn’t anything spectacular about it, but I’d still probably order it again. I wish the crust had been a LITTLE bit thicker, and more pie-like, but it was still good.
Anna’s (vegetarian) review: I did not eat this.

Grape Ghoul-Ant Shake

twentythree.jpg

Flo’s Diner, Cars Land, California Adventure
What is it: A grape ice cream shake…?
Rachel’s review: Yup, it tastes like grape. Uh huh. Sure does. Doesn’t really taste like much of anything else.
Anna’s Review: This tasted like children’s medicine.

Junkyard JamBOOree Mix

twenty.jpg

Cozy Cone Motel, Cars Land, California Adventure
What is it: Choice of flavored popcorn with optional “nuts and bolts,” like, M&M’s, candy corn, chocolate-covered pretzels, sprinkles.
Rachel’s review: There was so much going on here, and I just wanted some popcorn but instead I kept eating chocolate covered peanuts. Too much for me. I like my Disneyland popcorn simple — buttery and with an overload of seasoning.
Anna’s feview: I could not stop eating this — even though the candy corn did not taste like candy corn.

Spider Silk Ice Cream Sandwich

four.jpg

  • Clarabelle’s Hand Scooped Ice Cream, Buena Vista Street, California Adventure
  • What is it: A black macaron with charcoal-tart cherry spun ice cream topped with pop rocks and raspberry sauce.
  • Rachel’s review: Let’s call this Disney’s “millennial” dessert. I ate this not realizing what it was, and I was like, “Wow, this tastes like charcoal.” SURPRISE, IT WAS CHARCOAL ICE CREAM. Why you gotta do that to me, Disneyland? The ice cream was just chalky, the macaroon tasted like textured cardboard and the pop rocks were SURPRISING. Hard pass. I really wanted the Bat Wing Raspberry Sundae, but they were sold out of it (?????????????), so I got this instead.
  • Anna’s feview: No thank you.

Specialty Candy Apple

apple.jpg

Trolly Treats, Buena Vista Street, California Adventure
What is it: Only the best damn candy apple you’ve ever had
Rachel’s review: Your typical Disneyland candy apple. Pretty good.
Anna’s review: Once my teeth broke through the artful white chocolate shell, my taste buds were awoken with the flavor of oh-so-ooey, oh-so-gooey caramel. By the time I got to the apple (and let me tell you, I got to it fast), I was in syrupy, sweet, chocolatey heaven. If you told me Walt Disney’s ghost made this candy apple himself, I’d believe you.

Cheeseburger Pizza Slice

twentyfive.jpg

  • Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta, Paradise Pier, California Adventure
  • What is it: …a cheeseburger pizza
  • Rachel’s review: LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THIS CHEESEBURGER PIZZA. It’s not what I wanted. TBH, we didn’t even get this. What we wanted was the “Anti-Vampire Pizza,” with roasted garlic sauce, marinated chicken, smoked gouda, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and tomato-harissa sauce. But it’s no longer available??? I’m still low-key upset about this. Bring back the Anti-Vampire pizza, please.
  • Anna’s (vegetarian) review: I cannot eat this.

And there you have it, folks.
