Disney World has started canceling events for the weekend due to Hurricane Irma
Right now, there is a hurricane hurtling toward the United States, and in a matter of days — if not hours, in some parts — it’s going to make landfall. Hurricane Irma is expected to hit Florida hard over the weekend, and while Disney World isn’t on the coast of the state, it’s expected that strong rains and hella intense winds will blow through the theme park.
As of Thursday afternoon, Disney World is still running normal operating hours, so yes, Magic Kingdom will close at midnight tonight. Currently, the decision to close for weather has not been made. This could change at any moment — or operating hours could be adjusted, like they were last year during hurricane season (at one point, on the eve of a bad storm, Disney closed the parks down in the middle of the afternoon). false
So while Space Mountain remains operational and you can still meet all the Princesses, Disney has canceled a few events for the weekend. According to the most recent update, Disney World has canceled their Night of Joy event on Saturday (the event will happen on Friday, as planned), along with Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom.
Also, Blizzard Beach Water Park will be outright closed on Friday and Saturday. Typhoon Lagoon will remain open for anyone who wants to go to a water park during a hurricane. (???? Don’t go to a water park during a hurricane. Just…don’t.)
Orlando International Airport — a mere 20 miles away — will close down on Saturday. They just tweeted out that all flights in and out of Orlando will stop at 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Shutting down an airport is a pretty major thing.

While Disney hasn’t announced anything, it’s a pretty safe bet that the park will be closed over the weekend, and if not that, it will at least close early. Don’t plan on getting a Dole Whip Saturday night.
Update: Late Thursday afternoon, Disney started canceling even more events. Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, including the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue and Mickey’s Backyard BBQ, will be closed on Saturday, and the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has been canceled ?.
