Walt Disney World just did something incredible for the Orlando shooting victims and their families
As Lilo once perfectly put it in her movie, Lilo and Stitch, “Ohana means family, and family means no one gets left behind and forgotten.” It’s a saying that rings true, and it’s a perfect way to explain what The Walt Disney Company has just done for the entire Orlando, Florida community. They’re a family, and right now they’re stronger than ever. No one is being left behind or forgotten in this time of need.
Following the events of the Pulse night club shooting over the weekend, Disney World has donated an astonishing $1 million dollars to the OneOrlando Fund. The OneOrlando Fund was just recently established by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer “to provide a way to help respond to the needs of our community, now and in the time to come, after the effects of the Pulse tragedy.”
“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act,” Walt Disney Parks and Resort chairman, Bob Chapek, explained in a press release. “With 74,000 Cast Members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.”
Disney is also matching, dollar for dollar, every single cast member donation to the fund, too. In the end, the number will total far greater than $1 million. The company has also set up designated locations across the Walt Disney World resort property where cast members and employees can donate blood through OneBlood.
Oh but wait, that’s still not all Disney World is doing. The press release also explains that they’re currently “providing complimentary accommodations for the families and friends of the victims,” who have traveled to Florida following the weekend’s events.
Absolutely amazing, Disney. They’re certainly going completely above and beyond to assist their Orlando family ❤️
