Disney just confirmed “Rogue One” will be an anthology and we are stoked
Word on the street is we have another Star Wars anthology coming our way and we can’t wait.
Disney confirmed a third episode in the latest standalone installment slated for 2020, following the release of the first in the series, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, coming this December. Disney chief executive Bob Iger told Deadline that he hired a writer to work on the third film, but shared few other details.
"It’s really interesting in terms of Star Wars storytelling," he said at an investor presentation during Goldman Sachs Communacopia, Wired noted. "Star Wars has only been told as a saga, and this is a moment in time."
The second episode is set to center around Han Solo and will be written and produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller for a 2018 release. Iger admitted he doesn’t foresee that Rogue One will beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the box office, but said there has been quite a bit of buzz.
As The Guardian noted, The Force Awakens was the highest ever grossing film in the US and third in the world, which makes it pretty tough to beat.
"We love what we've seen," he said, regarding an early rough cut he viewed of the pending movie.
We can never get enough Star Wars in any form, so keep the installments coming.
