So, here’s what Disney princesses would look like if they were Renaissance paintings

This whole “Disney princesses reimagined” thing is gaining more attention than we ever thought possible. Admittedly, it might be going a bit overboard. (Last week, they were reimagined as hot dogs, OK?) But hear us out, because Disney princesses reimagined as Renaissance paintings are gorgeous. Plus, these were commissioned by Disney, so you know they’re legit.

Let’s back up. Heather Theurer, an artist in Las Vegas, is a self-taught painter. She learned to paint growing up in Utah, observing everything around her: people, animals, environments, you name it. Five years ago at San Diego Comic Con, Theurer was approached by someone who worked at Disney. He admired her classic portrait style, and asked if she would try painting Disney characters.

“I’d grown up loving Disney films, and I’d always wanted to be an artist, but I never quite put the two together,” Theurer told MTV News.

Naturally, she decided to take the job. But she doesn’t limit herself to just Disney princesses—her paintings are inclusive of all Disney characters (hi, Olaf & Stitch).

“I told him I hadn’t, but hey, I was up for it, so what the heck, I’d give it a try,” Theurer continued. “Over the next couple of years … I fell in love with the process and now I have so many ideas for all the Disney characters that I’d need a 72-hour day for the next several years to finish them all.”
