The next Disney Princess is actually a Disney Prince

Disney is hoping we feel the same way about princes that we do about princesses. They’re currently developing a brand new film told from the perspective of someone completely different: Prince Charming.

The Hollywood Reporter is describing the live-action film as “a revisionist take on the fairy [tale],” which is great. If it were just focused on the actual Prince Charming from Cinderella, it would be a very short movie. Because Prince Charming has, like, five lines in the entire movie if you go back and watch it closely.

BUT, the movie might not actually even be about Prince Charming. Variety‘s suggesting that the film will instead focus on Prince Charming’s brother who “never lived up to the family name.” Oh, haven’t we all been there before.

The movie is also being described as a comedy. Yeah, a comedy. The script was written by Matt Fogel, who worked along side Phil Lord and Chris Miller on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (also, the guys behind The Lego Movie). Calling it a comedy fits in line with the idea that the story will actually focus on the Brother of Charming. And then, you know, how the king and queen are always looking at him, wondering why he can’t be more like Charming, and how he’s never going to inherit the kingdom, and so on and so forth.

Prince Charming: The Movie joins the long list of other movies Disney is converting from cartoon narrative to live action film. We’ve already seen Maleficent and Cinderella on the big screen, and soon they’ll be joined by [deep breath], Beauty and the Best, Mulan, Pinocchio, The Jungle Book, Dumbo, Tink, Maleficent 2, and Winnie the Pooh. Yes, we will watch all of them, you don’t have to ask twice.

But now the big question, who’s going to play Brother of Charming and Prince Charming?? This isn’t a role to take lightly. We could start speculating, but then we’d be here all day, brainstorming Hollywood actors who would look great in epaulettes (definition: those weird fringe-y things Prince Charming wears on his shoulders).
