There’s going to be a Disney movie about Snow White’s sister, and it sounds ~mysterious~
Let’s cut right to the chase: Disney’s got a new live-action princess movie in the works. It’s about Snow White. Just kidding, it’s about Snow White’s sister, Rose Red. There will be dwarfs, seven of them to be exact.
Disney has just announced that they’re planning a “companion” movie about Snow White’s MIA sister. Didn’t know she had a sister, did you? The OG animated 1937 classic leaves this sister completely out of the picture, but she’s present in the OG Grimms’ fairy tale. Now it’s time for Disney to bring the character to life in her very own “revisionists take.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie — currently titled Rose Red — will “transposes Rose Red into the Snow White tale, making her a key player in the later moments of the classic story.” You know when Snow bites the poison apple and falls into her deep sleep? That’s the part where Rose Red comes in, and “must undertake a dangerous quest with Grumpy and the other dwarfs to find a way to break the curse and bring Snow White back to life.”
Yes, because if you’re going out on a dangerous quest, don’t take Doc who totally went to medical school, take Grumpy.
The Grimms’ fairy tale about Rose Red and her more-famous sister Snow White portrays them as children meeting a bear (but he’s friendly!) and this bear is really a ~prince in disguise~, because of course he is. Snow White then marries that prince, and Rose Red marries that prince’s brother, because why not? Will the Disney version go this way? Can Ruby Rose (from OITNB) play Rose Red, because I keep on googling her instead of this fictional fairy tale character?
No timeline is set for the movie yet, but it’s in Disney’s fairy tale pipeline right now. A pipeline that includes, but is not limited to, about a thousand other live-action movies like Tinkerbell, Mulan, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book (which opens in two weeks), and A Goofy Movie. Just kidding about that last one, it’s only happening right now IN MY DREAMS. But if Rose Red can get her own movie, maybe Max Goof can, too.
