Every Disney fan needs to watch this sing-along outside Walt’s childhood home

This is for all the forever fans of Disney, which is probably nearly everyone! Recently there was a fundraiser in Chicago, to benefit the birthplace of Walt Disney and the Dick Van Dyke Foundation of the Performing Arts. Dick Van Dyke is of course legendary, having acted in numerous Disney classics like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N. The most significant was Mary Poppins — where he played the lovable chimney sweep, Bert.
Van Dyke is 90 years old now, and clearly still going strong, because he lead an impromptu (but very energetic) sing-along outside Walt Disney’s childhood home. The song he chose was of course, “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” from Mary Poppins, because come on, nostalgia! (It also happens to be one of the best songs ever in the history of time.) Here he is singing the song with his wife Arlene, and his awesome acapella group called Vantastix.
Are they too cute, or what? Van Dyke might be 90, but he’s still got the energy and stamina of a little boy. The song is great throwback to the original song in the film, and Van Dyke really made his performance a special tribute to Walt Disney and everything he achieved during his career.
None of this would be complete without the original song from the film though, right?! Here it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
Wow, it’s even better than we remember. Perfect in every way. Of course, Mary Poppins fans world wide are looking forward with excitement as well as back with great nostalgia. Disney has recently announced a Mary Poppins sequel, starring the effortlessly elegant Emily Blunt and, in a role similar to Van Dyke’s in the original, Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda. That’s certainly the spoonful of sugar we need to get through just about any bad news right now!
