Disney just changed its rules for being a princess, feminists everywhere REJOICE
I could write a thousand stories about my love for Disney princesses. Okay maybe not a thousand, but you get the gist! Growing up, almost every little girl wanted a glass slipper like Cinderella, sass like Ariel (THE Little Mermaid), and can we all agree that Snow White and her seven dwarfs were the original #squadgoals?
Well now, Disney illustrators are flipping the narrative on its head and creating new standards to look up to!
Disney commissioned parenting expert Judy Reith to analyze Disney Princesses such as Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Rapunzel (Tangled), and Tiana (The Princess and the Frog), before putting together a list of qualities and traits. These characteristics were then presented to a panel of over 5,000 parents. The parents then ranked the list based on the features they felt were most important for their children to look up to.
Afterward, Kate Moross, Rose Blake, and Kate Forrester (UK’s leading illustrators) were tapped to create wall art for Disney’s ‘Dream Big Princess’ campaign, which outlines ten new modern-day “princess principles.” These posters are free through Disney stores across the country and online to download as a free downloadable print.
Here’s what Kate Moross had to say about the project:
“Disney is as much a part of my life now as it was when I was little. Anyone that knows me will know this chance to collaborate with Disney is a dream come true. It has been really fun to bring to life these principles, and I hope that it will be enjoyed by big and little people on the walls of wherever they call home.
For the first time ever, Disney is defining what it means to be a modern Princess – tiara and/or Prince not required!
