Disney reigned supreme at the 2016 box office with a long list of mega-hits
2016 was a good year for movies, and one movie giant played no small role in that: Disney dominated box office numbers for 2016.
The Mouse House produced seven (seven!) of the year’s 15 top-grossing movies. Essentially, that means Disney produced just as many smash hits as all other movie studios combined.
Summer sequel Finding Dory earned the top spot of the year, followed closely by the recently released Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the first stand-alone Star Wars film.
The other top earners for Disney include Captain America: Civil War, The Jungle Book, Zootopia, Doctor Strange, and Moana. (We know what you’re thinking: All of these came out in only ONE year?!?!?!?!)
If you’re thinking Disney won the movie game by only a little, you’d be wrong: They earned a full billion more than the second place studio, Warner Bros., which released Batman v. Superman, Suicide Squad, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them this year.
Numbers aside, we’re excited for another year of Disney movies ahead!
