“Dirty Dancing” is officially returning to theaters, and we’re trying very hard to stay calm
There are some movies that stay with you forever. But only one of those involves the summer love affair between ridiculously handsome dance instructor Johnny Castle and sweet, spirited Baby Houseman, played by the disarmingly charismatic tag-team of Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. That’s right, we’re talking about Dirty Dancing, which — we know it’s hard to believe — is about to turn 30.
And to celebrate its incredible legacy, Fathom Events and Lionsgate are bringing the movie back to the big screen in 2017 for two nights only. So put on your lycra dance pants and clear your schedule!
Given the fact that the movie came out in 1987, it’s quite probable that you may never have actually seen it in a theater. So come January 29th and February 1st, you have a chance! You can even purchase your ticket in advance to make sure you definitely have a seat.
To make this treat even sweeter, there will be a 15-mintute sneak peek of the “Happy 30th Birthday, Dirty Dancing” vignette from the upcoming 30th-anniversary DVD release.
Okay, we officially cannot wait for 2017. Tom Lucas, Fathom Events Vice President of Studio Relations, said it best with:

And the excitement doesn’t even end there. Along with special editions of the DVD/Blu-Ray coming in February, and a celebratory soundtrack release to follow, Dirty Dancing — The Classic Story on Stage will be touring North America in the new year! OMG. This is really happening.
Having recently heard that ABC is doing a Dirty Dancing TV-remake in 2017 with Sarah Hyland and Abigail Breslin, it certainly seems like Dirty Dancing is the official theme of 2017 (there’s even a Dirty Dancing themed eyeshadow…because nostalgia is real). And we’re not complaining.
We can’t wait to relive each and every moment of this classic, and sing along to the Oscar-winning “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” which honestly…we should just go ahead and play right now.
