The director of “Titanic” had THIS to say about the controversies surrounding “the door”

Just when you think something has sunk (sorry), it seems to come right back up again. This is exactly the case when it comes to Titanic and “the door.” However, this time around, the movie’s director, James Cameron, has waded into the controversy and defended the movie’s ending.

Given that Titanic came out 20 years ago this year (!!!!!!!!), you’d think that any debates surrounding the epic romance and that problematic scene where Rose appears to hog the door meaning that Jack ends up freezing to death would have all been resolved. Indeed, even the cast are fed up with speculation. Heck, there was even a Mythbuster’s video about that door.

Well, now the movie’s director, James Cameron, has defended his decision to kill Jack off (and ruin all our hopes and dreams).

Speaking to The Daily Beast, Cameron vehemently refuted the Mythbuster’s claims.

"OK, so let’s really play that out: you’re Jack, you’re in water that’s 28 degrees, your brain is starting to get hypothermia," he said. "Mythbusters asks you to now go take off your life vest, take hers off, swim underneath this thing, attach it in some way that it won’t just wash out two minutes later — which means you’re underwater tying this thing on in 28-degree water, and that’s going to take you five to ten minutes, so by the time you come back up you’re already dead. So that wouldn’t work. His best choice was to keep his upper body out of the water and hope to get pulled out by a boat or something before he died. They’re fun guys and I loved doing that show with them, but they’re full of shit."

Ooh BURN.

Tbh, James Cameron makes a valid point. The water is below freezing, and we’re pretty sure that spending any time trying to tie something in that temperature would be pretty hard. In fact, even moving would probably be nearly impossible. Also, as he pointed out in the interview, too, it was his movie and Jack had to die as that was all part of the story.

Perhaps now people can leave the great debate around Jack, Rose, and the door dead in the water (again, sorry). Also, there are LOADS more incredible Titanic theories that we can obsess over, like this one about Jack *actually* being a time traveller or this one where Rose fabricated meeting Jack at all…
