Get ready to swoon, here’s what you need to know about the new Dimitri in the “Anastasia” musical
First of all, in case you’ve been living under a rock, the beloved animated filmAnastasia is being turned into a musical. This is literally the best news we have ever received — no hyperbole, STOP JUDGING US — and so naturally we’ve been stalking every development like it’s our job (Partly because it *is* our job, but don’t let that mitigate our boundless enthusiasm for this in your minds).
What we’re MOST excited about at this moment, re: Anastasia, is the casting for Dimitri, aka Anya’s love interest and total animated babe, as far as animated babes go. And now, he’s a real LIFE hunk and we can be attracted to him without feeling weird (Still stop judging us).
Here’s what Dimitry looked like in the animated film, in dramatic gif form so you can share our pain at how much we love this movie.

And here’s what Dimitry looks like in the musical, by which we mean: “Hello, here, have this picture of Anastasia star Derek Klena, and try and not swoon TOO hard.”
Well, he’s perfect. And uh, yeah, we mean perfect for the role, not perfect in general. Ha. Haha. Erm…. okay but SERIOUSLY!?
Here’s the whole cast together, Dimitri, Anya (Christy Altomare), and new character/new baddie Gleb (Ramin Karimloo).
Okay, yeah, he’s basically perfect in general. Actually, the whole cast is pretty perfect IRL. It’s fine. We’re fine. (We’re not fine).
If Derek looks slightly familiar to you, it’s because he’s had a handful of guest spots on well-known TV shows like Blue Bloods and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (!!!). He even auditioned for American Idol in 2010. He didn’t make it past auditions, but Derek Klena, if you’re reading, WE would definitely send you to Hollywood and not just because it’s where we live and we want to hang out with you all the time.
Since that probably won’t happen anytime soon (Anastasia is in NYC, after all), at least we have Derek’s Instagram:
We were already pretty excited for the Anastasia musical, but now our excitement level has peaked at 11. Excuse us while we go buy a ton of tickets to the show.
