Did O.J. Simpson confess to murdering Nicole Brown Simpson in this 2006 TV interview?

It seems like every few years, O.J. Simpson makes headlines yet again. In 2016, FX jumped on the true crime train and aired The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Later that year, a knife found at Simpson’s estate was ruled out as a murder weapon. In 2017, he was released from prison after serving nine years. And interviewers never miss a chance to ask Kim Kardashian about Simpson.

Now, Simpson is in the news again. And if you’ve kept up with his case over the years, you’ll agree that the reason he’s making headlines is pretty wild. On Sunday, March 11th, Fox aired a two-hour interview called O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession? The interview was conducted in 2006 by Judith Regan for her book If I Did It. In the interview, Simpson offered a hypothetical explanation for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman — the murders for which he was acquitted but still deemed liable for in a civil lawsuit.

Simpson described the night of the murders hypothetically, offering Regan a fictional account of what could have happened.

In the hypothetical, Simpson said that he and a friend named Charlie went to Nicole’s house on June 12th, 1994 — the night of the murders. But as Simpson he went on, he included a lot of detail as to how and why he may have committed the crime. Further, he began speaking in the first person at one point. Many think it’s because the story isn’t fiction at all, and is actually a confession.

"As things got heated, I just remember Nicole fell and hurt herself and this guy kind of got into a karate thing," Simpson said. "I remember I grabbed the knife — I do remember that portion, taking the knife from Charlie — and to be honest, after that, I don't remember. I think everything was — would have been covered in blood."

Simpson then said that he and Charlie (hypothetically?) fled and threw away the bloody clothes.

"You know, I had no conscious memory of doing that. But obviously, I must have, because they found the glove there."

We don’t know whether this is s a confession or not. But it’s certainly interesting to see yet another layer of Simpson’s infamous case so many years later.
