Diane Kruger won “Best Actress” at Cannes, and here’s what we know about her film

A big congratulations is in order for the wonderful Diane Kruger, who just won the “Best Actress” award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival for her role in the much-anticipated drama In The Fade. Kruger, of course, has long been one of our favorite actresses, and we’re super thrilled to see her win such an acclaimed award.
In a field with such stiff competition, it’s got to be amazing to actually land that big win.
Just look at how excited Diane Kruger is with her trophy!
Eep! She looks so surprised and excited, and like she’s having a full-on out of body experience. Girl, we get it. If we just won an award, this would pretty much be our faces, too.
Here she is, we assume a tiny bit later, having composed herself a smidge, and posing like the film festival royalty that she is.

So what kind of magic did Diane Kruger work on screen to earn herself a Cannes “Best Actress” award?
Some pretty dark and intense magic, it sounds like. In The Fade is a German-language movie in which Kruger plays Katja, a Hamburg woman on a quest for justice after her Kurdish husband and son are murdered by a pair of Neo-Nazis.
Variety praised Kruger’s “powerhouse performance” and the film’s “incontrovertible general appeal.”
However, the best review Kruger gets for her performance comes from a surprisingly sweet source. Her ex Joshua Jackson took to Instagram to sing her praises.
" Yes she Cannes. Having witnessed the integrity and dedication that you bring to every job, I'm over the moon to see you getting the recognition you deserve. Only question is what took 'em so long! CONGRATULATIONS!"
We’ll forgive Jackson his corny-as-heck pun because his sentiment is just so lovely and dear. We one-hundred percent echo this Insta! Congratulations, Ms. Kruger, we can’t wait to see your movie!
