Depeche Mode covered David Bowie, and it’s magical

“Heroes” is one of the iconic David Bowie songs, and that’s saying a lot. When you ask someone to pick one of their favorite Bowie tracks, it’ll probably be in the top 10. At least.

Electronic music legends Depeche Mode certainly feel some type of way about the song. They covered it in Stockholm, on the opening night of their latest tour.

With Bowie’s passing, it’s been interesting to see how fellow musicians pay tribute. Many people, of course, cover his music. But Depeche Mode is a band that was not only active during Bowie’s career, but at a similar level of fame and artistry. The cover is then, in its own way, a nod of respect toward an influence and peer.

Depeche Mode is currently on tour in support of their latest album, Spirit. Their current tour opener is the indie band Warpaint. And what do you know: Warpaint once covered Bowie tune “Ashes to Ashes.”

This was part of a larger cover record, We Were So Turned On: A Tribute to David Bowie. Though that cover record dropped in 2010, its selection of fabulous Bowie tributes remains excellent, and perhaps even somber in the wake of his passing.
