Demi Lovato just posted a bathing suit pic to make an important point about her eating disorder

While not a lot of us manage to keep our New Year’s resolutions year-round, one of our favorites just shared one of hers — and it’s something we all need to listen to. Demi Lovato posted a bathing suit photo that she felt a little insecure about, and said that she vowed to stop being a victim of self-criticism.

Lovato, who openly battles an eating disorder, noted that she was afraid to post the picture since she wasn’t fond of the way her legs looked. The singer has admitted that she’s had a setback or two regarding her recovery from bulimia nervosa, but has advocated that recovery is possible.

In her documentary, Simply Complicated, Lovato admitted that food was still one of the biggest challenges she’s had to handle.

“When I feel lonely, my heart feels hungry and then I end up binging and I don’t know how to figure out how to be alone,” Lovato said in a scene with her manager. “One thing that I haven’t fully conquered is my eating disorder.”

This photo, in which she’s absolutely glowing while out on the beach, is only proof that she’s well on her way toward loving herself and staying as healthy as possible.

"I’m insecure about my legs in this picture but I’m posting it because I look so happy and this year I’ve decided I’m letting go of my perfectionism and embracing freedom from self-criticism," she captioned the photo. "Learning to love my body the way it is is challenging but life changing. Giving up my eating disorder has been the most challenging journey of my life but I work every day towards solid recovery even if I mess up sometimes."

We wish Demi nothing but the best, and love the fact that she’s such a great inspiration for people out there who are also struggling.
