Demi Lovato gets real about wearing a see-through red carpet dress in front of her dad

We can always count on Demi Lovato to step it up a notch when it comes to fashion. She has the enviable ability to pull off pretty much anything and everything she wears — even when that outfit covers little to nothing. Lovato was basically naked under her Grammy dress, and she looked stunning per usual. But to make things a little weird, her dad was her plus one.

If you’re thinking, “Wait, we’re all naked under our clothes,” you’d obviously be right — but Lovato’s dress was straight up see-through. It was the Grammys though — attire is supposed to be edgy. So she definitely succeeded at that. And she certainly rocked her nude crocheted Julien Macdonald dress like nobody’s business. 

TBH, it’s a little hard to tell that the dress was even see-through. In fact, most people didn’t even notice they could see beyond the fabric/yarn. Not all naked dresses are created equal, but this one was definitely full of class.

Lovato stopped by The Ellen Show on Tuesday and discussed the awkwardness of wearing a naked dress in front of her dad.

"At first I tried on the dress and I was like, 'I'm not wearing this. It's see through.' And my stylist was like, 'But it looks amazing'...then I convinced myself," Lovato told Ellen DeGeneres. "But I was actually on the red carpet with my dad and that was awkward. Someone was like, 'Tell us a secret about your dress' and I was like 'It's completely see-through."

As for what her dad thought of the dress?

“He said he approved, but I don’t know if he realized it was see-through so…” DeGeneres didn’t believe that he missed that minor detail, which led Lovato to admit, “I don’t know, we didn’t talk about it!” 

Lovato looked gorgeous, and we’re certain her dad was incredibly proud to be there with his daughter no matter what she was wearing.
