Demi Lovato dropped some brilliant body image wisdom like a boss
Demi Lovato has been spreading her message of confidence around like a Fairy Body Love Mother for a long time now, but her recent unfiltered bikini picture post to Instagram and interview with Cosmo about body image delivered some acceptance and self-love knowledge bombs we all need a lot more of in our lives. The former Disney starlet, who has always been open with her fans about her history with eating disorders, self-harm, and low self-esteem, posted the picture to Instagram as a celebration of self-acceptance with the caption, “Regardless of what society tells you these days … You don’t have to have a thigh gap to be beautiful. It is possible to love your body the way it is.”
The star had a chance to open up to Cosmo magazine about the inspiration for the photo in the interview, where she emphasized it isn’t just important to accept and embrace your curves, but all body types: thin, curvy, and everything in between. The most winning line is one that we all need to tattoo to the inside of our eyelids as a reminder: “There is no right or wrong when it comes to bodies — it’s all about being healthy.” She goes on to stress that she isn’t against people photoshopping their own photos, but that she uses Instagram uploads like these to give her fans a truer sense of herself, and hopefully motivate them to feel just as happy and satisfied in their own bodies.
Although it’s felt sometimes like this winterpalooza will last forever, the truth is that Spring Break and bikini season is right around the corner, so her message couldn’t be any more timely or necessary than it is right now. With sage body wisdom from grounded celebs like Demi, hopefully we can make 2015 the year we stop trying to make ourselves “bikini ready,” and accept that we are and always will be.
